The Snow Wolf replica is made from Wood & Metal. The main parts of the replica, such as the body and barrel, are made of steel. Smaller parts are made of metal. The replica is fitted with a handguard made from a single piece of real wood.

The exterior finish leaves nothing to be desired. The wooden body is very comfortable to hold and the blackened metal makes the replica very realistic. The replica has two selectors located between the handguard and the body of the replica, one is the fuse and the other is the firing mode selector. Access to the Hop-Up chamber is gained after pulling the charging handle.

Designed towards the end of the First World War by a team of technicians including Hugo Schmeisser working for the Bergmann Company, the Maschinenpistole 18 was distributed to front-line troops (notably the Stosstruppen, German assault troops).

The company produced around 10,000 in 1918, with an estimated 5,000 used in combat. Production continued in 1919 and 1920. From the serial numbers observed, it appears that 35,000 pieces were made before the manufacturing licence was transferred to SIG (Switzerland), who renamed it SIG Bergmann 1920.

The MP18 was specially designed for trench warfare, where a machine gun would be too cumbersome and a rifle too slow. Unlike the Allies, who developed machine guns (Browning Automatic Rifle, Lewis Mark I, CSRG 1915 Chauchat), the MP18 was designed to use handgun ammunition.

Its concept and use inspired all the machine pistols manufactured after it. Its modernised versions, the SIG Bergmann 1920 and MP28, saw action on many battlefields, from South America to China.
